Watch: Thousands Gather In Sussex County For Funeral Of Turkish Dissident Fethullah Gulen
Hundreds of people gathered at Skylands Ballpark for the funeral of Fethullah Gulen, a prominent Turkish Muslim cleric, who inspired a movement in his native country, on Thursday, Oct. 24.
The funeral in Frankford Township caused delays in the area, with Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada asking drivers to avoid the intersections of Route 15, 206, 565 and the surrounding area during the funeral.
Gulen's official X account said that an estimated 20,000 people were inside and outside of the ballpark for this funeral. The stadium has 4,200 seats, the website says.

Saudi Arabian Stole School Bus From NJ, Busted In PA: Feds
A 24-year-old Saudi Arabian pleaded guilty on Thursday, Aug. 14, to stealing a school bus from Livingston last year and transporting it across state lines, authorities said.
In Jan. 2023, police in Livingston responded to a report of a break-in and during a search of a backpack at the home, found a Saudi Arabian passport with the name Bader Alzaharani, US Attorney Philip Sellinger said.

Cold CASE: PA Trucker Found Shot, Wrapped In Sleeping Bag, Dumped In Creek
Over half a century after his body was found in Slatington, state police continue to investigate the death of Richard Stewart Wimbish.
The 49-year-old was found shot to death and wrapped in a sleeping bag in Trout Creek on Jan. 13, 1973, troopers say.
Wimbish was last seen alive leaving work on Dec. 29, 1972, authorities said. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Trucking Company located at 49th Street and Parkside Avenue in West Philadelphia.
His regular delivery route saw him travel as far north as Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Stroudsburg, police said. …

Human Remains ID'd As Pennsylvania Man Missing Since 2012: Coroner
A Monroe County man who went missing more than a decade ago died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to officials.
The remains of Stephen C. Lepore were unearthed at 95 Peet Road in Dreher Township, Wayne County, said the Coroner's Office.
The skeletal remains were discovered by an unknown party on Tuesday morning, Oct. 17, and identified as Lepore using dental records on Thursday, Oct. 19, Coroner Edward R. Howell said.
Lepore, of Tobyhanna, was last seen on the morning of August 17, 2012, driving his 2007 Chevrolet Express, state police investigators have said.

Missing Mom Found Dead Off Route 80 In PA
The human remains discovered in a wooded area off of Interstate 80 in Monroe County last week have been identified as belonging to a missing Stroudsburg woman, authorities have confirmed.
Dana Kristine Smithers, who was last seen nearly a year ago, was found near the Park Avenue/I-80 East on-ramp on Friday, April 28, Stroud Area Regional Police wrote in a release.
Smithers, who was 46, was identified via dental records, authorities said. An autopsy was conducted on Monday, May 1, but an official cause and manner of death are pending further testing, SARPD officers wrote.

Fisherman Discovers Dead Body In Pocono Creek: Police
A fisherman discovered the body of a man in Pocono Creek on Friday, Oct. 7, authorities said.
Anthony Nicholas Counterman, 26, was found in the water near Tanite Road in Stroud Township around 9:15 a.m., Stroud Area Regional police said.
His body was recovered by first responders around 12:15 p.m., they said.
An autopsy will be conducted, but his cause and manner of death are undetermined at this time, police said.

Investigators: Paterson Man, 19, Shot, Killed In Poconos Over Alleged $100 Debt
UPDATE: A Pennsylvania man claimed he shot and killed a Paterson teen in the Poconos over an alleged $100 debt, authorities said after arresting him and an accused accomplice.
Tyrone Michael Parson, 19, of Stroudsburg lured Jaheem Keith Alston, also 19, into a purported drug deal before pulling out a gun and firing several shots at him on Oct. 16, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Alston's body was later found in a wooded area of Middle Smithfield Township, about 15 minutes west of the Delaware Water Gap, they said.

A Pennsylvania State Police trooper shot at a pickup truck that struck a police vehicle on Route 80 during a Friday night pursuit that began in New Jersey, authorities said.
New Jersey State Police began pursuing a silver Dodge Ram driven by Steven R. Wilson, 51, of Allentown, around 8 p.m. on Route 46 and the westbound side of Route 80 through Warren County, Pennsylvania State Police said.
