Lower Paxton Police Release Details In 33- Hour Standoff
After approximately 33 hours, the gunman has been arrested and the hostages are safe, according to Lower Paxton Township police. The standoff started Monday at Pennswood apartments in Lower Paxton Township after a violent domestic assault in one of the apartment units. Derrick Hutcherson, 36, of Harrisburg, has been arrested and is facing numerous felony charges, including attempted criminal homicide for shooting his 25-year-old girlfriend, as Daily Voice previously reported. Police have identified the gunman at Pennswood apartments who shot his 25-year-old girlfriend while holding her hostage with his 2-year-old son, authorities said. Derrick Hutcherson, 36, of Harrisburg, shot his girlfriend above her left eye, police said. She escaped with help of a neighbor Monday and was recovering at a local hospital, reports say. A gunman remains barricaded in the Pennswood apartments for a second day, as more details are released by area police. A 25-year-old woman who is the man's girlfriend and child's mother was shot in the head on Monday around 11:50 a.m., according to Lower Paxton Township police. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she is in stable condition. The hostages he has taken are the girlfriend's mother-- who lives in the apartment the man is barricaded in-- and his child. Residents in Lower Paxton are urged to shelter in place due to a gunman. There is a barricaded gunman on Manyunk Road near Pennswood Apartments, say area police.
