A Lycoming County man has been arrested and charged with murder in the 2021 death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son, authorities in Berks County announced on Thursday, Oct. 10. Elijah Matias, 23, of Cogan Station, is believed to have caused the boy's multiple internal and external injuries in various stages of healing found in an autopsy in January 2021, the DA's office said. An 8-year-old girl was found dead in her bedroom and the cause is unknown, police announced on Wednesday night, Sept. 4. The girl was found unresponsive in her bedroom and 911 was called around Wednesday, police explained. PPD and PFD-Medic Unit responded to the call of an unresponsive child on the 1700 block of West Lippincott Street, in the 39th District, at 6:39 p.m. "The PFD-Medic Unit performed CPR for several minutes on the child, but she was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m.," the police said. A 21-month-old child in Kennett Township died after being beaten by an adult man, prosecutors say. Enrique Lopez-Gomez, 20, of West Grove, is charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and related counts, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office. A 15-months and 14-days-old boy has been identified after being struck by a Norfolk Southen Train on Thursday. Landis Sensenig Newswanger was hit by a Norfolk Southern train running along the tracks in his backyard in the 400 block of West Main Street, South Newton Township, Cumberland County at 10:04 a.m. on Dec. 7, according to state police and later identified in his obituary.
