Central Penn Baseball Star Struck Dead By Tractor-Trailer On I-81: Coroner
A former college baseball player was struck dead on Interstate 81 on Sunday, Aug. 25, the Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall told Daily Voice. Quinton J. Heckard, 26, of Hummelstown, was hit by a tractor-trailer on I-81 South at mile marker 61.7 at 8:13 a.m., according to Hall. The fatal pedestrian strike happened when "Heckard stepped in front of the truck from the shoulder of the road," Hall said. A 29-year-old man has died at a Central Pennsylvania hospital following a serious crash, the Dauphin County Coroner's office told Daily Voice on Saturday, Aug. 10. Nehad Mehonic of Lower Paxton Township, suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle collided with the rear of a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado on Interstate 83 South at mile marker 42.2 just before Exit: 41B - Lemoyne on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the coroner's office and Pennsylvania State Police detailed in separate releases on the crash. Wrestling Coach Emily Rajis Accused Of Sex With Students
A faculty member and wrestling coach at Central Dauphin East High School has been arrested on charges related to having sex with multiple students, the police announced on Friday evening. A 17-year-old boy is in police custody for bringing a gun to Central Dauphin East High School on Thursday, Feb. 15, the Lower Paxton Township Bureau of Police announced on Friday night. Following a "systematic search" of a Central Pennsylvania school — with help from Pennsylvania and Maryland State Police — administrators have announced a full closure until Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to a press conference on the evening of Feb. 15. Fight Among Students Leads To Lockdown At Dauphin County School
A Dauphin County high school was briefly placed on lockdown following a fight between students on Monday, Nov. 21, authorities say. The lockdown at Central Dauphin East High School was lifted at 11:30 a.m., according to district spokeswoman Shannon Leib. Classes have resumed and the school operating as normal according to Leib, but "District administration notified local law enforcement who are currently at the school investigating the incident." A daughter is asking her community for help after her father loses his battle against COVID-19. Brandon C. Smith, 50, of Swatara Township, died at UPMC Pinnacle in Harrisburg on Sept. 29 at 1:15 a.m., according to his daughter. His daughter, Jordan Williams was at his side when he passed after a two and a half week long battle with COVID-19 with pneumonia. A high school senior was killed by a relative in a crash on Sunday, according to Swatara Township police. Sajan Basnet, 22, Harrisburg, has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI and related charges following the head-on crash. Basnet was drunk and speeding when he crashed at the intersection of 61st and Ann streets around 11:40 p.m., according to police and as Daily Voice previously reported.
