Murder Suspect With 36+ Year Record Of Crimes Across PA Arrested: Police

A 58-year-old former convict has been arrested for murder among other charges, Harrisburg police announced on Thursday night.

Carel Dell Foster of Harrisburg was arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing of William Gonzalez, 51 also of Harrisburg, on Nov. 9, police detailed. 

Gonzalez was found stabbed to death in Harrisburg on Sunday night, city police announced the following morning.

He was identified as the victim by Dauphin County officials on Monday, Nov. 6.

Officers were called to the reported stabbing in the 1800 block of Paxton Street, near the intersection of South 18th and Paxton streets, around 9 p.m. on Nov. 5. 

The man was found "suffering from apparent stabbed wounds" and declared deceased at the scene, the police said. 

Foster has been charged with murder, a misdemeanor for possessing instruments of crime, and a misdemeanor for tampering with evidence, the police explained and court records confirm.

He has a court record that dates back to 1987 for robbery. Since then he has faced charges in Somerset, Dauphin, Columbia, Cumberland, Lancaster, and Montour counties.

His offenses include but are not limited to the following according to previous court dockets: 

  • Assault.
  • Theft.
  • Fleeing from police.
  • False ID to police.
  • Disorderly conduct.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Escape.
  • Driving with a suspended license.
  • Drug possession.
  • Hazardous conduct.
  • Harassment - physically strike, kick, etc.
  • Receiving stolen property. 

He has spent years either behind bars or on probation, all of the details of which are not immediately available as his migrated cases predate the state's internet court records. 

He has been denied bail per the nature of the charges and is being held in the Dauphin County Prison. His preliminary hearing for the alleged murder of William Gonzales is set before Magisterial District Judge Paul T. Zozos at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28.
