3 Pipe Bombs Found At Public Safety Building In Harrisburg: Authorities (Update)

Three pipe bombs were brought to the Public Safety Building in Harrisburg and the "good samaritan" who found them on Cameron Street has been interviewed and released as of Wednesday, May 9, 2023, Harrisburg Director of Communications Matt Maisel told Daily Voice.

"A man came to the Public Safety Building at 123 Walnut around 11 claiming to have found a bag on Cameron St with explosives inside," Maisel said on Tuesday, May 8. "Police immediately detained the bag in question and the man for questioning."

All three floors of the building were evacuated and the police "closed down the 100 block of Walnut St and River St between Walnut and Strawberry," according to Maisel.

A "K9 team (was) called in as well as PSP bomb squad," Maisel told us.

The man "did not have harmful intent on bringing the bag (of bombs) to the police station. Since he was not arrested and is not facing any charges, Harrisburg Police will not be releasing his identity. The investigation is ongoing. There was some confusion yesterday about the lead investigating agency. I can tell you that the Harrisburg Bureau of Police are the lead investigators and the ATF is providing assistance," Maisel said.

This is a developing situation, as who made the bombs and how they ended up on Cameron Street remains unclear. Follow Daily Voice for those updates.
