The former Secret Service agent who went on to become an instructor in Maryland, earned a master's degree from Queens College and an MBA at Penn State University.
He will serve under recently appointed FBI Director Kash Patel, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the agency's dozens of field offices.
"Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice! Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel," the president posted on social media.
Calling him "one of the most successful podcasters in country," Trump cited Bongino's past with the NYPD and US Secret Service.
"Working with our great new United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly," Trump continued.
"Another aspect of the life of Dan Bongino that I think is very important. He has a great wife, Paula, and two wonderful daughters who truly love their dad. What an incredible job Dan will do!!!"
Patel also took to social media to laud Bongino, describing him as "a warrior and lifelong public servant."
"His leadership, integrity, and deep commitment to justice make him the ideal choice to help lead the FBI at this critical time," he wrote. "He’s a (cop's) cop.
"We are assembling a team focused on restoring public trust, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring justice is served."
