New System Will Bring Severe Storms To Much Of East Coast: Here's Timing

The first weeks of spring are marked by a push-and-pull between cold and warm air masses and in the days ahead, it will lead to the arrival of a massive system that will trigger thunderstorms across most of the East Coast.

A look at the broad area where severe storms are possible Sunday night, March 30, into Monday, March 31 is shown in the first image above from AccuWeather.

The system will be sparked by an approaching cold front clashing with warmer air.

Some of the storms may be severe, with strong wind gusts, hail and flash flooding.

Warmer air will prevail throughout much of the Northeast (shown in orange) during the weekend, with colder air (shown in blue) in northern and eastern New England and upstate New York. (Click on the second image above.)
