PA Woman Sleeping In Dumpster Dumped Into Garbage Truck, Rescued By First Responders

A woman was rescued from a garbage truck in Allentown after being dumped into it while sleeping inside a dumpster, according to officials.

Allentown Fire Department crews were dispatched to 2nd Street and West Hamilton Street shortly before 4:15 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, after receiving a call about a person trapped inside a trash truck, the department said in a news release.

When first responders arrived, witnesses reported that the woman had been inside the dumpster when it was emptied into the truck. Realizing she was trapped, fire crews and medics worked urgently to free her.

The rescue operation was completed shortly before 5 a.m. The woman was transported by paramedics to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest with minor injuries.

It was not immediately clear how she ended up inside the dumpster before the incident, authorities said.

Engines 6, 4, and 9, along with Truck 2, Medics 1, 2, and 100, responded to the scene under the command of Battalion 43.
