Worker Stuck In Tobacco Machinery Killed: Lancaster County Coroner
A man was killed after becoming trapped in machinery at Lancaster Leaf Tobacco, the coroner announced on Thursday, Sept. 4. Apolinar Menedez Heredia, 63, of the 1000 block of Maple Avenue in Lancaster, died after he was extricated from equipment at the company, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. The incident happened at 207 Piney Road at 1:07 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The cause and manner of death remain pending. An autopsy has been authorized, officials said. OSHA is investigating this incident. No further details have been released.

A man died after falling 25 feet from a roof at the Utz Potato Factory in Hanover, York County officials announced on Friday, May 2. The fall was reported to York County 911 at 8:35 a.m. from the factory located at 900 High Street, according to the Office of Emergency Management. Multiple people were injured in an explosion-like event at a manufacturing plant in South Central Pennsylvania. Emergency crews were called to the "fire department incident" at Johnson Controls located at 100 Cumberland Valley Avenue in Waynesboro at 7:23 a.m., according to emergency dispatchers in Franklin County. "An air chamber rupture," was also reported to the police. They added that the incident is contained to the facility. A construction worker fell from the scaffolding on the exterior of the ninth floor of a building in Pittsburgh on Thursday, May 30, officials with the office of public safety announced later that morning.
