Fatal Crash Closes I-81 Near Hershey: PennDOT

A fatal crash has closed part of Interstate 81 in Central Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The deadly crash happened on I-81 North at mile marker 77.5 near Hershey, according to PennDOT's 511PA. 

A vehicle going south on the interstate crossed over into oncoming traffic, around 6:06 p.m. on Sunday, Spt. 29, according to Schreffler and 511PA. 

One person in a passenger vehicle has died, Schreffler told us. 

I-81 North is closed at Exit 77: PA 39 - Manada Hill/Hershey and Exit 80: PA 743 - Grantville/Hershey.  

"I have no further information on what the other vehicle," Schreffler said, adding "Expect significant delays."

PennDOT crews estimate the road will reopen around 11 p.m.
