A Powerball player won a six-figure prize on Monday, July 15, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery. The lucky player matched five of the six balls drawn to earn $150,000, state gaming officials said. The vendor, TNT Food Market at 5801 Market Street in West Philadelphia, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning slip. State police investigators hope to shed new light on the 1991 murder of a West Philadelphia man. Derek Michael Mason was last seen leaving his South 39th Street home in October of that year, according to troopers. His remains were discovered off the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Clay Township, Lancaster County in January 1992. Authorities determined that he had been murdered, but it took until 2023 to identify him using DNA evidence, police say. Mason was known by the nicknames "Hawkeye" and "Hawk." Police are investigating after a young child was found dead in a duffel bag in Philadelphia on Monday morning, March 18. The child was found on the 600 block of N. 38th Street in the Mantua section of West Philly, according to the department. The boy in the dumpster has been identified as 12-year-old Hezekiah "Hezzy" Bernard, authorities announced on Aug. 31. A SEPTA employee is accused of driving under the influence after she allegedly crashed into a city trolley with her car while off-duty. Brianna Satchell-Thomas, 31, of West Philadelphia, is charged with aggravated assault while DUI and related counts, city police told Daily Voice. Two children and one adult were hospitalized after a pickup truck struck them and fled the scene in West Philadelphia on Friday, Sept. 1, 6abc reports. A fire broke out Monday, Aug. 1 at a West Philadelphia home where 154 jugs of gasoline were stored, 6abc reports.
