A Pennsylvania State Trooper suffered a broken leg after being struck by a pickup truck while patrolling near Live! Casino in South Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, state police said.
The trooper, part of the Pennsylvania State Police Mounted Patrol Unit, was assisting in crowd control near the casino around 3:54 p.m. when the incident occurred. Before the mounted unit's arrival, the scene was brought under control, and the unit resumed patrol, traveling south on Darien Street near Pattison Avenue, according to the release.

A husband and wife are accused of masterminding a $20 million Medicaid and Medicare fraud scheme from their South Philadelphia pharmacy, Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Elizabeth Thompson, 70, the registered owner of Broad Street Family Pharmacy, and her husband, Peter Dello Buono, 70, allegedly ran the scheme alongside pharmacist Frank Bengermino, 70, defrauding federal healthcare programs by faking prescriptions and pocketing the cash, investigators said.
