At least two vehicles caught fire on Interstate 81 in Central Pennsylvania on Thursday morning. The incident appears to have started when a tractor-trailer attempted to pull on the right shoulder on I-81 near Exit 37: Newville in Penn Township around 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice. An RV fire turned brush fire halted traffic on Interstate 81 near the Maryland and Pennsylvania state lines on Wednesday, authorities told Daily Voice. The RV's brakes caught fire near 14: PA 316 - Wayne Avenue around 2:27 p.m. on Oct. 25, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Fritzi Schreffler explained. A tractor-trailer driver has died after driving off Interstate 81 — onto the train tracks below, authorities announced Monday night. James C. Hayworth, 58, of Chatsworth, GA was trapped in his trailer after accidentally driving his vehicle off I-81 onto the train tracks below, the Pennsylvania State Police explained in a release the following morning. Part of Interstate 81 shut down in Central Pennsylvania on Friday morning, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler. The "pedestrian-related incident" happened at mile marker 1 on Sept. 22 shortly before 7:40 a.m., Schreffler detailed to Daily Voice. The southbound lanes closed between exit 3 to Molly Pitcher Highway and the Maryland border, according to PennDOT.
