19: Vaccines For Kids Under 5 Unanimously Recommended By Expert FDA Panel
Federal health officials are moving closer to authorizing COVID-19 vaccines for the youngest Americans. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted on Wednesday, June 15 to recommend authorizing both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old. New COVID Variant Has Scientists Worried
Another COVID-19 variant with multiple mutations is the subject of a special meeting called by the World Health Organization for Friday. The meeting on the B.1.1.529 variant detected in South Africa will focus on what the new variant means for treatments and vaccines, the organization said Thursday. The WHO was expected to give the new variant a name on Friday. 19 Vaccine Manufacturer Opens In Central PA
COVID-19 vaccines are now being manufactured in central Pennsylvania. The former Unilife plant, located at 250 Cross Farm Lane in York, is now BioTechnique. Unilife manufactured syringes and closed up shop after filing bankruptcy in 2017. BioTechnique was previously based in Madison, Wisconsin. BioTechnique purchased the building for $22 million which is approximately half of the cost of building a new facility, according to BioTechnique’s general manager John Clapham. 19: Unvaccinated Are More Than Twice As Likely To Get Virus A Second Time, CDC Says
A new study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that COVID-19 vaccines offer better and more protection against reinfection of the virus than just natural immunity among those who already have been infected. On Friday, Aug. 6, the CDC released the findings of a new study of nearly 1,000 Americans who previously tested positive for COVID-19 but remained unvaccinated.
