The New Cumberland Borough of Police Department was called to the burglary in the 300 block of Second Street at 8:14 p.m.
When officers arrived, they learned that the homeowner shot the suspect and they fled the scene. The officers located the suspect around 16th Street and Bridge Street and had them transported to an area hospital.
"The investigation is ongoing however this does not appear to be a random situation," the police stated in the release.
New Cumberland Police were assisted at the scene by Lower Allen Township Police, West Shore Regional Police, Cumberland County Forensic Investigations Division, and the New Cumberland Fire Police.
