Rivver Cooper has been identified a week after he slammed into a tree near the intersection of Furnace Hollow and Gutshall roads in Southampton Township, according to the York County Coroner's Office.
The crash happened around 12:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, according to the coroner.
Troopers believed he had suffered a serious injury and he was taken to WellSpan York Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, only to die days later.
Deputy Coroner Michele Kirchner was called to the hospital to investigate and certify Rivver's death.
His cause of death was multiple blunt force head injuries, according to a York County Coroner’s Office.
There was no autopsy but a routine toxicology test was obtained.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
Rivver was a 2019 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School and a rising senior in the 2024 class at Shippensburg University where he was studying criminal justice and he also was a youth development specialist at Abraxas Youth & Family Services, according to his LinkedIn. He previously was employed at the Rain Tunnel Car Wash in Chambersburg, his family explained in his obituary.
"Rivver enjoyed playing and watching baseball and working on his Jeep," "he was a member of the university car club," and "attended Shippensburg First Assembly of God Church," as stated in his obituary.
He "had a giving soul" which is why he elected to become an organ donor through the Girl of Life organization, according to his obituary.
He is survived by his parents, J. Ryan Cooper and Melinda K. (Nunley); four siblings; maternal grandmother, Janie Nunley; and paternal grandparents Lawrence “Big Dog” Cooper and Tina Cooper.
