Man Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer In Lancaster A 28-year-old Lancaster County man has been arrested for assaulting an officer while they tried to issue an arrest warrant on another crime, according to Manheim Township police. Rashawn Melendez was arrested at Lancaster Community Park on Saturday at 12:40 p.m. He was wanted by the East Hempfield Township police for Receiving Stolen Property. Officers found him sitting on a bench in the park and attempted to apprehend him. Melendez fled on foot and officers chased him. Repeat Offender: Lancaster County Convict Charged With Assault Of Child Under 13 A 73-year-old man who is already in jail has been charged with sexually assaulting a child under 13-years-old, according to police in Lancaster County. Thomas Edward Irwin, Sr., of Bellefonte, has been charged following a series of sexual abuse acts towards a child less than 13 years of age. Irwin, Sr., was the caretaker of the child at the time of the alleged crimes. He exposed himself to the child, and had inappropriate physical contact with the child, say Manheim Township police. Serious Storm Damage Closed Harrisburg Pike In Lancaster (Photos) The heavy rain and winds closed Harrisburg Pike on Wednesday night, according to Manheim Township police. The high winds caused fallen trees and construction debris to be strewn throughout the area. Harrisburg Pike closed between Route 30 and Crossings Boulevard at the entrance to Wegman's in Long's Park until emergency crews could clean up the area. Motorists were told to avoid this area and plan alternate routes of travel. The roads were cleared by Thursday morning.
