Firefighters battled a massive blaze at the abandoned Harrisburg State Hospital grounds in Susquehanna Township late Monday, Dec. 9, leaving the historic Cherrywood building in ruins, officials said. The fire broke out at the Department of General Services Annex Complex around 10 p.m., according to Harrisburg Fire. Coroner IDs 10-Year-Old Boy Drowned While Kayaking In Yellow Breeches Creek
On Wednesday, Aug. 14 a coroner was called to the area of search for a 10-year-old boy who went missing while kayaking in Yellow Breeches Creek – which became a recovery mission to retrieve his body on Monday, Aug. 12, the Fairview Township Fire Department announced. Matthew Coffroth Jr.'s body was found shortly after 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, according to the York County Coroner's office. A tractor-trailer fire closed part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Thursday evening, authorities said. The Fairview Township Fire Department along with mutual aid responded to the "well-involved" fire on Interstate 76 westbound around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19. The tractor-trailer burst into flames near the ramp to Interstate 83 by mile marker 241.9, the department explained. 'Catastrophic Fire' Kills Woman In York County, Coroner Says
A 92-year-old woman died at the scene of a "catastrophic fire" on Monday, February 6, 2023, authorities say. The fire broke out at the home in the 300 block of Thorley Road, Fairview Township sometime before 1:30 a.m., according to multiple releases authorities issued later that morning. A Harrisburg woman has been charged with arson in connection with a New Cumberland building fire that displaced nine people and hospitalized one person Thursday morning, ABC27 reports.
