Eddy Brito-Almonte, 20, of North Philadelphia, is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing police, weapons offenses, and related counts, city police said in a release on Wednesday, July 12.

Investigators said Brito-Almonte was pulled over on the 5400 block of Charles Street around 9:40 p.m. Monday night. While the officer was conducting a "vehicle investigation," police said the 20-year-old sped off, "dragging along" the cop.

The officer was "thrown from the vehicle," and was treated for upper- and lower-body injuries at Jefferson Frankford Hospital, the department said. He has since been discharged.

Court records for Brito-Almonte's case were not immediately available midday Wednesday.
