Observant Newspaper Carrier Saved Reader's Life In Berks County, Officials Say The sharp eye and quick thinking of a newspaper carrier in Wyomissing saved one reader's life last month, according to borough authorities.  Reading Eagle carrier Lee Heckrote was on his route on Dec. 8 and noticed that one customer had a backlog of uncollected letters and newspapers, said Wyomissing police.  After looking inside and seeing that the TV was on, Heckrote called in a welfare check. Motorcyclist Dies After Allegedly Fleeing Police On PA Highway A motorcyclist is dead after police say he fled from a traffic stop on Route 61 late on Tuesday, Aug. 8.  It began on Route 61 in Ontelaunee Township around 10:15 p.m., Northern Berks Regional Police said. Berks Judge Dies; Flags Lowered Across PA Berks County Court of Common Pleas Judge Paul M. Yatron has died, Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6.  Yatron, who had served in Berks since 2006 and was most recently elected in 2015, had previously worked in the county district attorney's office, the state attorney general's office, and the state auditor general's office, according to his obituary in the Reading Eagle.  Gov. Wolf ordered all flags at the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and at all state buildings in Berks County to fly at half-mast until Yatron's funeral, which has not yet been announced.

Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Train In Berks County: Report A person was struck and killed by a freight train early Tuesday, July 26 in Berks County, Reading Eagle reports. A train struck the female pedestrian around 1:15 a.m. at the Columbia Avenue crossing in Sinking Spring, and her body was discovered near the Woodrow Avenue crossing, the outlet says. Donald Klopp, 92, was reaching for a plank when he fell into a pond behind Airport Road home in Bethel Township around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, the outlet says citing the Berks County Coroner's Office.
