PA Man Stole Amazon Van On Christmas Eve, Say Police
A Chester man spent Christmas Day in a jail cell after police claimed he stole an entire Amazon package van on Sunday, Dec. 24. Nether Providence police were called to Manchester Avenue and Emerald Street around 2:15 p.m. on Christmas Eve by a delivery driver who said he had been robbed, according to a release. The driver told officers a masked man implied he had a gun, stole the van, and drove north on Manchester toward Baltimore Pike. Darryl Dixon Sr., the beloved Public Works Director for Nether Providence, died after a period of illness on Saturday, July 8, according to Township officials. He was 58. Dixon worked for 33 years in service of Nether Providence, first as a laborer in the Public Works department and then as Assistant Director before earning the top seat, said Township leaders. A quantity of drugs and a loaded firearm were discovered early Thursday morning when police in Delaware County served an arrest warrant at a Media home. Thurman J. Fortune, 30, was taken into custody by the Central Delco Tactical Response Team on the 600 block of Vernon Street around 6 a.m. on April 27, Nether Providence police said in a release. An 81-year-old man is missing, and was last known to be in Nether Providence, authorities announced. James Lee was last seen at around 11 a.m. near the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on Thursday, Jan. 19, a loved one told Nether Providence police. Lee is disabled, but does not have his cell phone or his hearing aids with him, officials said. A Delaware County high school was briefly locked down Thursday, Dec. 8 after administrators spotted a gun in a student's backpack that turned out to be fake. In a statement issued to parents and staff Thursday afternoon, Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Superintendent Wagner Marseille said staff at Strath Haven High School in Wallingford were informed that a student might have had a firearm in their bag.
