An accused child rapist who appears to have been on the run, was captured in Virginia, New Holland police announced on Thursday, Sept. 19. Jeffrey Alan Smith, 45, of New Holland, was charged by Officer Halstead with the following felonies: Rape of a Child, Statutory Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Assault of a Minor under 13 (two counts), Corruption of Minors (two counts), Incest of Minors, Unlawful Contact with Minors (two counts) and Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse. The man who died in a crash after fleeing from the police has been identified by the Lancaster County Coroner's Office and as detailed in a release by the New Holland Police. The pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle outside a hotel near multiple amusement parks has been identified by the Lancaster County Coroner on Friday, Aug. 30. John Zimmerman, 72, original of Lititz but recently of Lancaster, died at the scene of the strike at 2270 Lincoln Highway East at Fairfield Inn, according to the coroner. A man having a "medical issue" in the rafters of a tobacco barn on an Amish farm was rescued on Friday morning, Aug. 16, authorities said. Firefighters were called to the farm rescue in the 1700 block of Georgetown Road in Bart Township at 8:52 a.m. on Friday, according to a release by the Quarryville Fire Company and Lancaster County Wide Communications.
