Robert Corcoran, 61, of West Chester, was charged with indecent assault and harassment after a late-night ride took a disturbing turn on Feb. 10, prosecutors said.
Corcoran picked up the victim and a male passenger in the early morning hours. After dropping off the male passenger at 2:02 a.m., he allegedly insisted the woman move to the front seat while he FaceTimed with her sister, authorities said.
Once she ended the call, Corcoran groped the woman’s breast while driving. She immediately resisted, told him to stop, and texted her sister in distress, officials said. Instead of stopping, Corcoran kept making crude sexual comments as he drove toward her home, prosecutors said.
When they arrived at her residence, the victim tried to exit the vehicle—but Corcoran wasn’t finished. He followed her out, attempted to kiss her, and then grabbed her in a tight hug as she ran inside, according to prosecutors.
Investigators identified Corcoran using the victim’s quick-thinking license plate note, which matched his Uber profile, authorities said.
“This woman took all the right steps—FaceTiming, texting for help, resisting, and getting his plate number—but she was still targeted,” DA Steele said. He urged female passengers to remain vigilant when using ride-share services.
Corcoran turned himself in to Whitpain Township police on March 6. His bail was set at $25,000 unsecured, and he was ordered to stay away from the victim, prosecutors said.
His preliminary hearing is set for March 20 before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.
