A step-father to girls 9, 11, and 15 years old and biological father to two boys, 26-year-old Mason Morey told the undercover officer he had already had sexual encounters with his two younger stepdaughters, DHS details in the criminal complaint.
Morey met the undercover officer on the social media app Wickr using the name DARKRAVEN329 and quickly began asking about his daughter, who does not really exist, an officer explains in the complaint. He then asked the officer if he had sex with his fictitious daughter, graphically described sexual acts he did with or in front of his own children, and what he wanted to do to the officer's daughter, as well as ask for photos of the fake child.
These chats took place in the app from Nov. 28 through Dec. 8 —when they arranged to meet at a hotel, according to the complaint.
When they confirm the details for the meeting, the undercover officer sent the picture of the fake girl, and Morey sent a photo of himself with tattoos and "flowing" dark hair. That is when the officer said he is glad he could verify he is real since he is the one "with the 13 year old coming up there" and then says, "like it would be a one in a million chance that you picked up the only (explicative) cop on the darkweb."
Morey arrived in a 2010 silver Honda Accord at the Holiday Inn located at 600 Wildflower Drive in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 8 at 4:30 a.m., according to the complaint.
When authorities arrested him they found he had condoms, rubber gloves, baby oil, and a cellphone on him, court records detail.
Morey was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of attempted online enticement on Tuesday, Dec. 13, according to a release by the US department of justice.
This case is part of a nationwide initiative called Project Safe Childhood which was launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case.
If he is convicted he will face a maximum penalty of lifetime imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
