Nathan Blose, 40, is accused of murdering 45-year-old Shaun Harden, who was found dead in their shared cell at the Montgomery County correctional facility on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 5:55 a.m., according to officials.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Pennsylvania State Police were contacted by Captain Eddie Hodrick of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections after Harden’s body was discovered. Troopers who responded to the scene noted blood on Harden's face and neck, red marks on his neck, and a laceration behind his ear. Blood was also observed inside his mouth, and a puddle of blood was found on the cell floor, the affidavit states.
An autopsy conducted by Dr. Kaitlin Collura of the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office revealed hemorrhages in Harden’s neck, chest, and back. His death was ruled a homicide, authorities said.
Investigators said Blose and Harden were alone in their cell, identified as AC1012, from 7:37 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2024, until correctional officers found Harden’s body the next morning. Surveillance video confirmed no one else entered or exited the cell during that time, according to the affidavit.
When interviewed by investigators, Blose confirmed that he and Harden were the only individuals in the cell overnight. Officials allege that Blose’s statements, the surveillance footage, and forensic evidence connect him to the killing.
Blose was arraigned Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, before Magisterial District Judge Dara Ann Nasatir and remains at SCI Phoenix without bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, before Magisterial District Judge Adam Katzman.
Assistant District Attorney Gabriella Glenning, head of the Major Crimes Unit, will prosecute the case, authorities said.
