Coroner IDs Man Killed In York County Mobile Home Fire (Update)

A deadly fire tore through a York County mobile home on Sunday morning, Feb. 24, prompting a coroner’s response, officials confirmed.

Rhett Blanar, 66, was killed when flames engulfed his home in the 300 block of Ridge Road in Newberry Township just before 9 a.m., according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

Firefighters arrived to find the residence fully involved, emergency dispatchers said. The coroner was dispatched at 9:23 a.m., and Blanar was pronounced dead at 9:58 a.m.

Newberry Township Police and the Northern York County Regional Police Fire Investigator are leading the investigation. No autopsy will be performed, but a routine toxicology test will be conducted. The cause and manner of death are pending those results.

Strinestown Community Fire Company 26, along with multiple other departments, battled the blaze. Engine 26-1 was released from the scene at 9:42 a.m. and returned to Station 26 at 12:15 p.m.

Authorities have not released further details.
