Train Derails, Blocks Road, Knocks Out Power In Western PA: Mayor

A train derailed in Western Pennsylvania, leaving a street blocked and power out, Connellsville Mayor Greg Lincoln said on Thursday night, March 20.

The CSX train carrying nine flatbed cars came off the tracks near the 300 block of North Water Street in Connellsville just before 9 p.m., officials said.

Two of the cars landed on the roadway near Water and Peach streets, according to Lincoln. No injuries were reported, but the derailment caused a power outage in the surrounding area.

“Water Street will be closed until clean up is done,” the mayor wrote in a Facebook post.

Crews from CSX and emergency officials remain at the scene.
