PA Gov. Tom Wolf Extends Proclamation of Disaster Despite Vote To Limit This Ability
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed a renewal of the Proclamation of Disaster Emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday, according to his office. The fifth renewal of the disaster emergency comes just two days after voters in the Keystone state approved a constitutional amendment to limit the governor's emergency powers. The amendment will require any governor of the state to receive approval from the legislature to extend any public emergency declaration beyond 21 days. The vote has yet to be certified by the state. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Food and Drug Administration are calling for a pause on the use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine due to six cases of "rare and severe" blood clot cases reported. Millions of doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine were destroyed following a dosage mix-up at a production lab, prompting a delay in shipments to states. According to reports, employees at Emergent BioSolutions, a production facility in Baltimore that produces the vaccine, mixed up two ingredients, ruining approximately 15 million doses of the vaccine.
