Monteé Curtis Atkins, a native of Norristown, died suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 8, according to an obituary published by Volpe Funeral Home. He was 28 years old. Monteé was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably discharged as Corporal Atkins. Are you the next "American Idol?" The popular ABC singing competition is holding virtual auditions for the upcoming season this month and next. As long as you are of a certain age (scroll down for audition dates). According to the "American Idol" casting application website, contestants must be born between June 2, 1995 and Feb. 15, 2010. Catherine M. Jenkins of Springfield died on April 6. She was 67-years-old. Born in Philadelphia, Jenkins worked with special needs children for 13 years as part of her employment with the Springfield School District in Delaware County, according to her obituary. Jenkins' obituary remembered her as someone who "enjoyed gardening, singing, reading, summers at the beach, and spending time with her grandchildren."
