Firefighters, Police Officers Injured In Mayfair Fire
An infant, two police officers, and a firefighter were among the seven people injured in a Northeast Philadelphia rowhouse blaze Thursday morning, Dec. 7, according to officials. Firefighters were called to the 6300 block of Cardiff Street in Mayfair just before 8 a.m., PFD said. Two Philadelphia police officers were shot — one fatally — while in the parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday night. Officer Richard Mendez, a 50-year-old with 22 years in the department, was hit multiple times and died from his wounds, PPD brass said at a Friday evening press conference. Officer Raul Ortiz, 60, was hit once in the arm and is in stable condition at Jefferson Hospital, according to Interim Commissioner John Stanford. Teen Bicyclist Struck Dead In NE Philadelphia: Police
A teenager is dead after being hit by a car while riding his bike in Philadelphia, police told Daily Voice. It happened around 4:15 a.m. on Friday, July 28, the department said. The victim, an unnamed 18-year-old man, was struck at the intersection of Woodhaven Road and Byberry Road in the Northeast, police said. He was rushed to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m., they added. The driver fled the scene and police did not provide a vehicle description.
