A male-dominated South Jersey golf club kept women from becoming members, prevented them from owning homes on its property and handicapped those employed there, state authorities charged. As of last July, only three of the Pine Valley Golf Club’s 700 members were women, Acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in announcing a state Division of Civil Rights complaint against the historically male-dominated club in Camden County on Wednesday, April 27. A Pennsylvania woman says she was disqualified from a church raffle and discriminated against due to her gender. Emily Smaniotto had entered a raffle winning a bow fishing trip during the annual Wild Game Dinner at the Bethel Baptiste Church in North Union (Fayette County) when the troubles began, she said.
