Swimmer Drowns In Schuylkill River In Reading, Officials Say
One person died while swimming near Reading's Riverfront Park on Saturday, June 29, according to city officials. Reading firefighters said the male victim was seen going into the water near "Penske Beach" and never came back out. Police shot and wounded an armed man near a SEPTA station Monday night after they said he attacked commuters with knives. It happened at the Walnut-Locust Station on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line around 8 p.m. on Nov. 27, transit authorities told Daily Voice. It's that time of year again. Workers have begun setting up Easton's annual Winter Village in the city center, as of Wednesday, Nov. 8. Beginning this week and lasting through the holiday season, Northampton Street is closed to vehicle traffic from the Circle to Sitgreaves Street, City Hall said. Work To Begin On $2.3 Million Skate Park In Reading
Crews are set to begin work this week at the site of a planned skate park in Reading, according to City Hall. City officials, the Reading Skatepark Association, and Holistic Skate Shop will host a ceremonial groundbreaking at 6th and Canal streets at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 6. The project is expected to cost $2.34 million, officials said in a release. A gunman opened fire at a security guard near Philadelphia's City Hall and then fled the scene, authorities told Daily Voice. The unnamed guard, a 29-year-old man, was patrolling Dilworth Park just after 11: 30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, when he asked a group of people to leave the area, police said. A former Bethlehem police officer has been charged with stalking and harassing another police department employee — someone he used to be in a relationship with, authorities announced. The family of a Connecticut woman who was found dead in her apartment is upset over the way her death was handled is being backed by TikTok users. Lauren Smith-Fields, 23, of Bridgeport, was found dead in her apartment on Sunday, Dec. 12 by Bridgeport police after a date with 37-year-old Matthew LaFountain, whom she met on a dating site.
