Authorities said they were called about an assault on Independence Place in the Headley Trace development around 7 a.m.

They arrived and spoke with a female victim who snuck out of the rear of a residence, according to the release. The suspect was armed with a handgun and the South-Central Emergency Response Team was called to establish a barricade, police said.

Residents were advised to shelter in place for two and a half hours while police communicated with the suspect, authorities said. He was eventually arrested without incident.

No one was harmed during the standoff, police said. The woman suffered minor injuries from the initial assault but declined medical attention, the release says.

Investigators are seeking a search warrant for the home and the unnamed suspect is awaiting his arraignment, the department added.
