A defining voice from the MTV-era new wave boom has gone silent.
Naked Eyes announced Wednesday, Sept. 23, that Pete Byrne, the singer and songwriter for the British synth-pop group, had died at age 74.
Byrne died peacefully in Los Angeles, California, on Monday, Sept. 14, following a brief illness, according to the announcement posted on the band’s website.

A Pennsylvania elementary school teacher and youth athletics coach sexually abused three boys he met online, including one who was approximately 13 when the encounters began, authorities announced on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Jason Michael Theodore, 54, of North Wales, was arrested by Upper Gwynedd Township police on Friday, Sept. 25, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
Theodore taught physical education at Montgomery Elementary School and coached wrestling and hockey, authorities said. He also worked with the districtwide IRONKnights Elementary Triathlon.
