Philadelphia Police Name Officer Killed In Airport Shooting (Updated) Two Philadelphia police officers were shot — one fatally — while in the parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday night. Officer Richard Mendez, a 50-year-old with 22 years in the department, was hit multiple times and died from his wounds, PPD brass said at a Friday evening press conference.  Officer Raul Ortiz, 60, was hit once in the arm and is in stable condition at Jefferson Hospital, according to Interim Commissioner John Stanford. The shooting happened shortly after the men arrived for their shift at the airport around 11 p.m. on Oct. 13, Stanford said. …
