Work To Begin On $2.3 Million Skate Park In Reading
Crews are set to begin work this week at the site of a planned skate park in Reading, according to City Hall.
City officials, the Reading Skatepark Association, and Holistic Skate Shop will host a ceremonial groundbreaking at 6th and Canal streets at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 6.
The project is expected to cost $2.34 million, officials said in a release. Grind Line and Land Tech are contracted to perform $744,890 in land development, while firm Spotts, Stevens and McCoy is under agreement to install the park features for $1,599,138.89.

Authorities were called to the 300 block of Penn Street around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 18 for reports of shots fired, the department wrote in a release. They arrived to find that two men riding in a car had been ambushed, officials wrote.

Police are investigating after a woman was fatally shot on a Reading street early Thursday morning.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. on June 15, city police said in a statement.
The victim, 30-year-old Natalie Classen, was walking with a group on North 10th Street, authorities wrote. When they arrived at the intersection with Greenwich Street, a man with another group approached and shot her once, investigators said.

A man who was accused of raping a Reading teenager at knifepoint while she walked to school last spring is guilty, a Berks County jury has ruled.
Sean Samuels, now 39, of Auburn, was convicted of rape and related offenses on Wednesday, June 7, District Attorney John T. Adams' Office said in a release.
It happened around 8 a.m. on March 16 of last year, Daily Voice reported.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, told police she was walking to school on the 1200 block of Hill Road when she was abducted at knifepoint, taken to another location, and sexually assaulted twice.

Reading Carjackers Fired Gun During Police Chase, Cops Say
Two suspects are still at large after an armed carjacking in Reading late on Monday, June 5, say authorities.
City police were alerted to a car theft by four men around 10:15 p.m., they said in a release. A few hours later, around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, officers found the stolen car with all four suspects inside, the department said.
