70+ Philadelphia Schools Will Have Early Dismissals As Temps Expected To Soar Near 100 Degrees The school year hasn't even begun yet in Philadelphia, but some schools are already prepping schedule changes due to extreme heat. The Philadelphia Public School District has set early dismissals for its more than 70 schools without air conditioning, as heat index values are expected to soar up to 100 degrees. The plan to let schools without A/C three hours early takes effect Tuesday, Sept. 5 and Wednesday, Sept. 6.
