Summer Lee has made history by being the first Black woman elected to represent Pennsylvania in the US Congress. Lee, a second-term PA State House representative of the 34th district, will fill the seat vacated— by Rep. Mike Doyle, who decided not to run for the seat for the first time since 1994. A beloved "fireman's fireman" who trained firefighters around the world has died after a battle against a long illness, but his legacy will live on. The 23-year veteran of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, Captain Jimmy Ellis of Station 32 in Deutschtown passed away at Allegheny General Hospital with his loving family and friends by his side on Wednesday, July 13, city officials told Daily Voice. The Mayor of Pittsburgh has announced that he has COVID-19. Mayor Ed Gainey tested positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation at home as of Friday morning, according to a release from the city.
