CDC Warns Of Rise In Melatonin Poisoning In Kids Nationwide
Health officials are warning of an increase in melatonin poisoning among children. Over the past decade, the number of pediatric ingestions of melatonin rose 530%, with more than 260,000 ingestions reported between 2012 and 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Melatonin became the most frequently ingested substance among kids reported to national poison control centers in 2020, the CDC said. Jeff Bezos' ex-wife MacKenzie Scott— a philanthropist and novelist— has donated $1.5 million to an organization based in central Pennsylvania, according to a release by the recipient. State legislation giving tax breaks to Atlantic City casinos was signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday night. The bill does not affect state taxes that casinos must pay on internet gambling, online sports betting revenue or in-person casino gambling. Those taxes range from 9 to 15 percent annually. With millions of Americans set to hit the road for the Memorial Day holiday, prices are peaking at the pump. Drivers are set to pay the highest prices in seven years, according to AAA, following a gas shortage that impacted the East Coast when the Colonial Pipeline was temporarily shut down due to a cyberattack. A Pennsylvania man who worked as a tax preparer in Newark collected a fat stimulus check weeks before a federal grand jury indicted him for filing 44 bogus returns, authorities said.
