Hannah Marth, a 26-year-old former javelin coach for the NAHS track and field team, is charged with institutional sexual assault and sexual assault by a sports official — both felonies — said District Attorney Terence Houck in a statement.
State troopers say that in May 2021, when she was a coach, Marth texted a 17-year-old boy on the track team and invited him to her Lehigh Township home. There, she "initiated sexual contact with the victim," investigators believe.
In a follow-up interview with detectives, Marth "confessed to having a romantic involvement with the victim" during the spring of 2021, the DA said. The victim reportedly told police that he and Marth were "in a relationship that lasted until October 2022."
Northampton Area School District was not immediately available for comment to Daily Voice.
“A trusted relationship between a student-athlete, an athlete’s parent, and a coach can be a vulnerable one," said DA Houck in a statement. "An abuse of that relationship shows a coach’s blatant disregard for the well-being of those she or he coached, and above all – the law."
Court filings show Marth was arraigned on Thursday, April 13, where her bail was set at $75,000. She is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on April 27.
