David Walton, 59, was heading east on the highway when he came across traffic congestion related to a separate accident around 4 p.m., township police said.

He lost control of his 2008 Harley Davidson and skidded across the road until crashing into a box truck, according to police. The bike came to rest under a separate car.

Walton, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was severely injured and taken to St. Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus, where he died, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Route 22's eastbound lanes from Route 33 to 13th Street and from 25th to 13th streets remained closed for hours Wednesday evening as investigators worked the scene. Palmer Municipal Fire Department, Suburban EMS and the Northampton County Coroner’s Office assisted, police added.
