Missing Long Island Boy May Be With 'Suicidal' Father, Authorities Say
Authorities are searching for a 5-year-old boy who may be in danger after going missing from Long Island. Henderson Calderon Carranza was last seen on Tuesday, July 9 in Central Islip, according to the New York State Missing Persons Clearinghouse. On that day, the boy was spotted on East Elm Street at 11 a.m. and is believed to be with his father, Jose Calderon Arias, who authorities said may be suicidal. A Long Island man is accused of posing as a dance instructor in order to solicit sexual photos from young girls. Taner Ocal, age 22, of Lindenhurst, was arraigned on 30 criminal counts, including possessing child pornography, in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, July 11. According to prosecutors, Ocal contacted two 10-year-old girls in Texas on Instagram in June 2024 while pretending to be a dance instructor. Police are asking for the community’s assistance in locating a 16-year-old who has been missing for days from her Long Island home. Katherine Monterosa-Herrera, age 16, was last seen on Wednesday, July 3 in Lindenhurst, the Suffolk County Police Department said. That day, she was leaving her home with her belongings and passport. Two men have died following separate drowning incidents in residential swimming pools on Long Island. A man lost a finger in a Fourth of July fireworks mishap at a Long Island home that also injured three others, including a child. The incident happened at a Port Jefferson Station home on Foxrun Court at around 10 p.m. Thursday, July 4. Toddler Dies After Being Pulled From Long Island Swimming Pool
A toddler has died after being pulled from a swimming pool on Long Island. Emergency crews in Islandia were called to a home on Sunflower Lane at around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, after a 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a pool. Suffolk County Police said a family member pulled the child out of the water and performed CPR until medics arrived, but the boy was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. A Long Island man has gone missing and authorities have issued a Silver Alert. James Shurman, age 35, was last seen leaving his Centereach home at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday, June 28 in a gray 2015 Chrysler 200 with NY license plate KRP 8819. Shurman was reported missing by family on Sunday, June 30. Shurman is 5-foot-8, 225 pounds. He has red hair and hazel eyes. A toddler has been hospitalized after being found unresponsive at a residence on Long Island.
