Police In NY To Crack Down On Impaired, Reckless Driving Until Halloween If you will be driving during this year's spooky season celebrations, be safe — police in New York will be increasing efforts to catch impaired and reckless drivers through Halloween.  The crackdown was announced on Friday, Oct. 25 by Gov. Kathy Hochul, who said State Police and local law enforcement will be increasing patrols through Thursday, Oct. 31 to target drunk, drug-impaired, and reckless motorists.  During the initiative, sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols will be implemented. ID Released For Hicksville 20-Year-Old Killed In LIE Crash Involving Alleged Impaired Driver The identity has been released of a person killed in an overnight crash on the  Long Island Expressway involved an allegedly impaired driver. It happened around 1:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in Islandia Medford resident Alan Mercado, age 67, was driving a 2010 Honda on the westbound side near Exit 57, when he attempted to move from the center to the right lane and was struck from behind by a 2017 Yamaha motorcycle.
