Violent Parolee Stabbed Man Outside Bar In Region, Police Say
A violent ex-con out on parole is accused of stabbing a man outside a Capital Region bar.
Jason Melendez, 40, of Schenectady, was arrested Wednesday, April 16, in connection with a stabbing attack that left a man hospitalized outside Rotterdam’s Sliderz Bar & Grill.
The incident happened early Saturday morning, April 12, outside the Guilderland Avenue watering hole, according to Rotterdam Police.

Child, 8, Killed By Hit-Run Driver In Region, Police Say
An 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by a driver who then fled the scene in the Capital Region.
Fire and aid crews in Schenectady responded to Chrisler Avenue near Crane Street for a child who had been struck by a vehicle at around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, Schenectady Police said.
Officers located an 8-year-old boy who was unresponsive. The child was rushed to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Following the collision, the driver fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid to the boy, police said.

A suspected hit-and-run driver was apprehended following a Capital Region crash that killed a pedestrian.
Heath Mabeus, 37, was arrested by Colonie Police at his Clifton Park residence on Saturday, March 15, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman in Colonie the day before.
Mabeus struck 58-year-old Migdalia Aulet as she crossed Wolf Road near Beltrone Drive at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, Colonie Police said. He allegedly then fled the scene without stopping or offering the woman aid.
