An Ulster County man faces multiple charges after an investigation into sexual misconduct with a minor led to a police raid, authorities said. The arrest happened on Wednesday, July 30, when New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Kingston took 42-year-old James M. Benson of Saugerties into custody, New York State Police announced on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Minor Tries Grabbing Cop's Gun During Arrest In Region, Police Say
A minor is facing felony charges after allegedly trying to steal a Saratoga County deputy’s firearm. The incident happened Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Ballston Spa, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The minor attempted to forcibly remove a deputy’s handgun from its holster while being placed into a patrol vehicle, police said. The suspect also allegedly kicked the deputy in the leg, causing injury. A former Mormon missionary who fled trial after allegedly sexually abusing 14 boys in Tonga was arrested in Pennsylvania, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday, July 24. William James Purdy, 28, of West Valley, Utah, was taken into custody in Pittsburgh after being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of sexually exploiting minors overseas.
