Firefighter From Hudson Valley Burned In Bronx Explosion Caused By Lit Cigarette (Update) A firefighter from Rockland County was among seven New York City firefighters injured in a Bronx explosion caused by a discarded cigarette, officials said.  The incident happened on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in front of 1000 Fox St. in the Bronx, when a lit cigarette ignited nearby garbage, spreading flames to a parked vehicle and triggering a major explosion, according to FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito.  Esposito said the garbage fire ignited the vehicle's gas tank.  Five firefighters were treated for serious burns to their arms and faces. Fitbit LLC, which is now owned by Google, has been fined $12.25 million to settle claims by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the federal agency said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 23. The defect caused the Ionic smartwatches to overheat, leading to second- and third-degree burns for some users. Townhome Fire Injures Two, Destroys Bedroom In Hudson Valley A fire destroyed a second-story bedroom in a townhome in the Hudson Valley, causing injuries to the residents, including burns and respiratory problems.  The incident occurred in Poughkeepsie around 6:10 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at 13 Tall Tree Lane.
