'Highly-Regarded' LI Coach, Mentor Honored Following Death In Rollover Crash The Long Island athletic community is mourning the loss of a beloved high school basketball coach following his untimely death. Darrell Sumpter, a dedicated assistant varsity basketball coach at William Floyd High School, died Friday, Dec. 13, in a wreck on Sunrise Highway in Shirley, as Daily Voice reported. He was 51. Student Caught With Loaded Gun At High School On Long Island A teenager was apprehended after authorities say he brought a gun to his school on Long Island. The 14-year-old at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach was being interviewed by a school administrator on an unrelated matter when the student was found to have a loaded gun.  School officials contacted police early Friday afternoon, Oct. 18.
