Police In NY To Crack Down On Impaired, Reckless Driving Until Halloween If you will be driving during this year's spooky season celebrations, be safe — police in New York will be increasing efforts to catch impaired and reckless drivers through Halloween.  The crackdown was announced on Friday, Oct. 25 by Gov. Kathy Hochul, who said State Police and local law enforcement will be increasing patrols through Thursday, Oct. 31 to target drunk, drug-impaired, and reckless motorists.  During the initiative, sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols will be implemented. 7 Charged In Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint In Central Islip Seven people are facing charges after an overnight sobriety checkpoint on Long Island. Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) conducted the joint operation in the LIRR parking lot in Central Islip located at 870 Suffolk Ave., from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 until 2:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.  The checkpoint was part of an ongoing Labor Day weekend enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving.  A total of 656 vehicles went through the checkpoint. …

Memorial Day Weekend Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint: 12 Charged In Patchogue A dozen people were charged in an overnight sobriety checkpoint on Long Island at the outset of the Memorial Day weekend. The detail was held in Patchogue from around 11 p.m. Friday, May 24, until 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25. Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau SAFE-T Team conducted the joint operation with Suffolk County deputy sheriffs at Waverly Plaza.  A total of 569 vehicles went through the checkpoint.
