Two men from Westchester County face charges after fleeing a traffic stop and leading authorities on a pursuit through multiple counties in the region, police said.
Yonkers resident Martin Gjurashaj, age 45, and Tuckahoe resident Daniel Curanovic, age 27, were both arrested on Friday, Aug. 16 in connection with an incident in Sullivan and Orange counties on the same day, New York State Police announced on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Hudson Valley Man Sentenced To Prison For Sex With Child Under 13
A Hudson Valley man has been sentenced to state prison for sexual conduct against a child under the age of 13.
Orange County resident Eduardo Martinez-Rojas, age 30, of Highland Mills, a hamlet of Woodbury, was sentenced on Monday, April 8 to 15 years in prison and 10 years of post-release supervision, according to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
Martinez-Rojas, who will also be registered as a sexual offender, admitted that he engaged in two or more acts of sexual intercourse, oral sex, and anal sex with a child under the age of 13, Hoovler said.

1 Killed, 5 Injured In Head-On Hudson Valley Crash
One person was killed and five injured during a head-on, three-car Hudson Valley crash.
It took place in Orange County around 8:30 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 15 in Woodbury, on Route 6.
An initial investigation of the crash revealed that a 2021 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Route 6 when the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Rockland County resident Chaim Gordon, age 24, from Spring Valley, attempted to pass a Cadillac in front of him and crossed over the double yellow line and entered the opposite lane striking a 2003 Nissan X-Terra head-on, said Trooper Steven Nevel.

A Hudson Valley man ran out of gas, and luck, in his Mercedes-Benz while traveling in Orange County, leading to his being busted with heroin alongside a teenage passenger, New York State Police said.
A New York State Police sergeant driving west on Route 6 in Woodbury pulled over to assist the driver of a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C-230 that was stopped in the shoulder of the roadway on Wednesday, March 3.

Man Who Fled From State Police Busted With Two Kilos Of Cocaine, Police Say
A 35-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from New York State Police during a traffic stop and when caught, allegedly was in possession of two kilos of cocaine.
Sherland W. Simpson, of Newburgh, was arrested around 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, following a traffic stop in the town of Woodbury, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
According to Nevel, Simpson was arrested after a trooper from the Monroe barracks stopped a 2003 BMW with Connecticut plates traveling on State Route 32 in the town of Woodbury for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Covid-19: Hudson Valley Hits 2 Percent Infection Rate Mark As Cases In Clusters Spike
Spikes in positive COVID-19 cases in Rockland and Orange County have pushed the Hudson Valley’s infection rate to the highest in New York.
On Monday, Sept. 28, there were 9,948 people tested in the Hudson Valley, with 202 returning positive, bringing the infection rate to 2 percent, ahead of Western New York (1.3 percent), New York City (1.3 percent), and Long Island (1.2 percent).
No other region was above 1 percent as the statewide infection rate rose to 1.3 percent.

Isaias Outage Update: New Breakdown Of Most-Affected Communities In Rockland, Orange
Hundreds in Rockland and Orange County remain without power nearly a week after Tropical Storm Isaias wreaked havoc on the East Coast.
As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, crews from Rockland & Orange Utilities was still responding to 417 reported outages, which were impacting 1,345 of their New York customers.
In Orange County, 705 of the company’s 104,130 customers were still reporting outages, while 628 of their 117,244 Rockland County residents were still in the dark.
